Here in Australia, we tend to have most of our celebration holidays crammed into summer which always keeps us very busy over this period! We were lucky enough to work with some great clients in 2019 to create some truly memorable and unique photo booth experiences over the Christmas period.

With the silly season now over and Adept Photo Booths emerging and expanding into the new year of 2020, we thought we would take a moment to share our two favourite corporate Christmas activations and Perth photo booth experiences from 2019 to help bring some inspiration into the new decade and have something to share with future clients.

We always love to work with our client’s ideas to provide a unique Perth photo booth experience that also meets their marketing objectives. We had the opportunity to work with the Hawaiian Mezz Shopping Centre in Mount Hawthorn who wanted to create an “Instagramable” Christmas activation running over a 6-day period, during their peak shopper times leading up to Christmas.

We provided a summer-inspired Christmas concept that we aptly named “Sandy Claus” which the client ran with. This activation involved a custom printed 2.4m x 2.4m tension fabric background with an image of the beach (sea, sky and sand), attached to a custom-built wooden sandbox with real-life beach sand to complete that authentic beach experience. We worked with a licensed carpenter to ensure full compliance and safety were met. This set then provided an opportunity to capture a moment with a summer Santa, aka Sandy Claus! Deck chairs and other themed props invited people to come sit next to Santa for a photo with our GIF Booth.

Our GIF Booths offer the latest in photo booth technology creating an engaging digital experience that seamlessly integrated into the activation and provided that “Instagramable” experience the client was after. Users were able to choose either a still photo or a mini video boomerang GIF that they could instantly email or SMS to themselves and share with their social media community. We were able to incorporate custom branding that also tied in with their Christmas collateral. Custom SMS and email copy to accommodate a photo sharing competition the Mezz was running to help their marketing objectives and social reach.

A total of 327 photos and GIFs were taken over the 6 days. Busy shoppers loved being able to have a Santa photo that was a bit different and that they could receive straight away and easily keep as a memory. Many parents or guardians use the token Santa photo as a ‘marker’ of how much their kids have grown since the last year, so it was important to us to make it memorable which we think we achieved.

We really enjoyed bringing this idea to life with the client and at the end of the activation the client provided feedback saying they found us very easy to work with and that set we created was amazing, which was is always satisfying to hear.

Another great opportunity we had was working with the team at Dexus who help coordinate the City of Perth’s Christmas Lights Trail. Part of this larger activation was their “Christmas Combi” located at King’s Square. A 5-metre-long kombi van fully decked out in over 10,000 lights from the tires to the roof and complete with a Santa face and hat, it would have been hard to miss!

The Dexus team booked our Roaming Photo Booth for nine nights up until Christmas eve to provide a shareable photo experience with the city dwellers. It was also at the time when the East Coast bushfires had really started to have an impact on the community and they saw it as an opportunity to collect an optional gold coin donation for the Salvation Army Bushire Appeal. Most people opted to make the donation and Dexus reported it was a great success. We also got on board and offered a cash donation of $800 pf our own towards the worthy cause.

The Roaming Photo Booth was the perfect photo booth for the job. Having a portable battery and monopod meant that Vanessa, one of our Perth photo booth attendants, had the flexibility of taking photos both outside and inside the van to capturing the perfect photo for the users.

Nearly 1,000 photos and GIFs were taken over the nine nights with the most photos taken Christmas eve. The client also had the objective of obtaining opt-ins for future marketing purposes. We were easily able to achieve this by adding a simple yes/no survey that the user received on the screen before their photo was sent to them. 200+ people opted-in and we were able to send the client a spreadsheet with the details of those that had given permission for them to use for future marketing and promotions.

The feedback from the client was that Vanessa our staff member was fantastic with the everyone and at coordinating the photos, we obviously already knew that Vanesa was a rock star, but it is always great to receive positive feedback from our clients. We both agreed the combination of the Christmas Combi, our Roaming Photo Booth and fundraising worked well. They loved the experience so much that they have already booked us in for a Valentine’s Day activation in February which we are excited about.
